A concept the meaning of brotherhood is easy to understand because each of us has a brother could it siblings, cousins, and friends who become brothers. The Brotherhood in Islam is not only the siblings but all of the people in the world who have uttered the shahada.
The believers are rich or poor are brothers, as the verse by Allah in the Qur’an:
The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy. (Al-Hujurat [49:])
Brotherhood in Islam
The brotherhood can also be understood is that the strong help the weak rich pity the poor and the powerless and can help the already helpless and powerless.
This is the only meaning of the word “brothers” contained in the above verses, as clarified by the following verse:
O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion – Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allah and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. ( Al Ma’idah: 54 )
In the verse of the Qur’an says the traits that exist in the Muslims are very meek and compassionate towards each other.
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. ( Al-Fath: 29)
So if brotherhood in Islam encompasses all believers, Should not the rich believer deny the right of his poor believer brother. His overwhelming wealth should be able to help the suffering and shortcomings experienced by his brother.
“The Muslim’s right to another Muslim is six, that is, if he meets his greeting, if he sneezes, then he prays for it, if he is sick he visits him, if he dies he delivers the body of the grave if he swears he does it.” (HR Imam Muslim).
